Blue Lantern Saint Walker All Will Be Well
The Blue Lantern Corps is one of the seven main Lantern Corps in DC Comics. They were founded in the aftermath of the Green Lanterns' war with the Sinestro Corps, and they've had friendly relations with the Green Lantern Corps for the entirety of their existence, and the Blues helped the GL Corps during the War of Light and the Blackest Night.
Their leader, Saint Walker, has been a mainstay ofGreen Lanterncomics for a while, and it's hard to deny that the Blue Lantern Corps has its attractive qualities. But, what should a DC fan know before they slip on a blue power ring (or, at least a convincing replica)?
10 The Corps Was Started By Ganthet And Sayd
The Blue Lantern Corps was founded by Guardians Ganthet and Sayd. These two Guardians formed a romantic relationship and allowed their emotions to direct their actions. Such things are unforgivable in the eyes of the Guardians of the Universe, who are intended to be a single unit devoid of individualism. Ganthet and Sayd, in order to maintain that individualism, departed from both the Guardians of the Universe and the Green Lantern Corps to start the Blue Lanterns
9 They Stand For Hope
Each Lantern Corps stands for one aspect of the emotional spectrum. Green stands for willpower, yellow stands for fear, red stands for rage, orange stands for avarice, indigo stands for compassion, violet stands for love, and blue stands for hope. It was decided to be as such by Ganthet and Sayd, as they still had hope that things will get better even after being ousted from the Guardians and the GL Corps. The Blues mantra is, "All will be well."
8 They're More Of A Church Than A Police Force
While the Blue Lantern Corps is intended to help others and preserve hope throughout the universe, their culture isn't that of a police force like the Green Lanterns. The Blues are more of a church, which is why their leader called "Saint" Walker and the other corpsmen are referred to as "brothers" and "sisters." They maintain a peaceful attitude and bear nothing but goodwill for other living beings.
7 The Rings Aren't Intended As Weapons
The Blue Lantern Rings also have less offensive capability than the Green Lantern Rings. While they have exhibited the ability to emit energy blasts and manifest contracts like the Green Lanterns, they do so to a lesser degree and generally aren't as strong. Again, the Blue Lantern Corps isn't really an intergalactic police force or roving army. They are a church, a force of benevolence and peace.
6 They Charge Green Lantern Rings
One unique quality of the Blue Lantern ring is its ability to power up Green Lantern rings. They boost the energy reserves and can even overcharge GL rings.
This proved a problem when Parallax was reintroduced into the Green Lantern Central Power Battery, and the Green Lanterns went berserk. Blue power rings couldn't affect the corrupted Green Lanterns. However, it was definitely a boon during the Blackest Night.
5 Healing Capabilities
The Blue Lantern rings have exhibited powerful healing abilities as well. They've shown the ability to do basic cellular regeneration and can treat wounds, but they've also cured greater ailments. When Guy Gardner briefly became a Red Lantern during the Blackest Night, Saint Walker was able to remove the red ring from Guy's finger. Being a Red Lantern is intended to be a life sentence, as the ring replaces the heart of its wielder — but Walker was still able to save Guy from that fate. A Blue Lantern ring also calmed a rampaging John Stewart with visions of his deceased wife, Katma Tui.
4 They Can Weaken Sinestro Corps Rings
Hope is the antithesis of fear, so Blue Lanterns and Sinestro Corpsmen stand at odds with one another in relation to the emotional spectrum. This means that Blue Lantern rings can actually weaken the powerful yellow rings of the Sinestro Corps. Given the antagonistic position that Sinestro and his Corps have taken towards the universe and the concept of freedom, this is a very useful ability.
3 Kyle Rayner And Barry Allen Have Been Blue Lanterns
Kyle Rayner was personally chosen by Ganthet to be a Green Lantern in the beginning, and so the Blue Lantern ring was an easy fit when he put one on during the War of the Green Lanterns. This was when Parallax infected the Green Lantern Central Power Battery, and Kyle, Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Hal Jordan were forced to give up their Green Lantern rings in favor of other colors.
Before that, the Flash, aka Barry Allen, put on a blue power ring. This happened during the Blackest Night, and Hal Jordan discovered that combining Lantern colors was the one surefire way to kill a reanimated Black Lantern. As such, Hal and his allies on Earth manifested copies of each of their Lantern Corps rings, and Barry received a Blue Lantern ring from Saint Walker.
2 They Have An Elephant
One of the most visually striking Blue Lanterns is Brother Warth, Saint Walker's second-in-command in the Blue Lantern Corps. He was also the second Blue Lantern chosen for the Corps, and he looks like a pachyderm. He is a bipedal elephant-creature with the strength and tusks to match. He's sort of like the Kilowog or Arkillo of the Blue Lantern Corps. He's a big, buff creature that could probably take you out even without a power ring.
1 They've Been All But Wiped Out
The tragedy of the Blue Lantern Corps is that they are all but extinct. The Reach, the alien species that made Blue Beetle's scarab power suit, invaded Odym, home world for the Blue Lantern Corps. They slaughtered the Blue Lanterns, leaving only Saint Walker to carry on the legacy. However, even he lost his blue ring when Relic arrived and destroyed the Blue Lantern Central Power Battery. However, Hal and Kyle recently found Saint Walker in self-imposed exile and convinced him to become a Blue Lantern once again. Where there is hope, there is life, and it's possible that Walker will revive the Corps.
